To Senator Scoot Brown!

Dear Senator Scott Brown,


Congratulation on driving your truck to Washington!

My name is Kalinka. I am a student at Bunker Hill Community College in Charleston, MA. I had the pleasure to follow you in your campaign for the United States Senate seat. My husband who is a Democrat was impressing seeing you as a Republican so close to the people. However I do not vote here. I am one of the 938,590 immigrants in Massachusetts which is approximately 14.5% of the state that you now represent.

I write this letter to tell you a story of a friend of mine.

He came to the United States from Nepal not to make money or to become a resident here, but looking for a better educational opportunity that could permit him to return to his country and support his family, and the economy of his country. Unfortunately he does not have many sources to support his education here. He is working illegally as many international students do to pay for his classes. He has been working in three different jobs to save money and pay for next semester. He succeeded in getting a note from a doctor giving him permission to reduce the required number of classes to support his student visa. This enabled him to work in his three jobs without losing his visa, and become one more illegal immigrant.

For people like my friend, I come to you to say that the United States like many other developed countries, should give more opportunities to international students who are looking for more opportunities to build a better life for them, their countries, and the world through the education that United States can give them. Education can be a good start to solving the problem of migration. If international students can have a good education to go back their countries and strengthen the education there, they can support a strong education in their own countries, it will not be necessary to migrate to find a better way to support their lives.

I have been in the United States almost two years and I have learned a lot about education system. I can say that education is the best product that United States has to offer but it is not available to everybody around the world. As our ancestries who came to this land looking for a better life. I hope you can understand my idea and become the difference for many immigrants in your states.

What about my friend? I do not know. He became so busy working that he does not have time to meet me, let alone to dedicate to his studies.
